In our latest blog post, we discuss some things to consider before you install a playground in your backyard.
Designing and Installing a Playground in Your Backyard
Ready to treat the kids with a playground in the backyard this summer in Saskatoon? Great! We have some tips to consider to ensure that if you are thinking about installing a playground, it goes smoothly and is a fixture your children will enjoy for years!
Choosing a Site for Installing a Playground
Choosing a good site in the backyard to place the playground is an extremely important consideration. You’ll want to find a nice flat piece of real estate so that the play equipment sits securely. Installing on even a slight slope could cause undue stress on the equipment during play, and potentially lead to an accident. You’ll also want to ensure there will be enough room around the playground so that there is plenty of room for any other outdoor activities you want to enjoy in your yard. If you are unsure about choosing a site or need some help preparing the site, contacting a professional landscaper is a good option.
Choosing Ground Cover
When selecting a ground cover material, finding something that is safe and economical is key. Luckily there are a number of great choices for this:
Rubber Mulch – A popular choice as it provides a soft cushion for falls, and is easy to maintain.
Wood Chips – Similar to rubber mulch, but is a little more aesthetically pleasing. However, it is not as good of a cushion as rubber mulch and can lead to slivers.
Play Sand – A classic choice that is affordable and safe – however it can cause some mess in the yard and be hard to maintain over time
Natural or Synthetic Turf – A great option if you want to maintain a consistent look in the yard, and provides good cushion. This option will generally be more expensive and labour intensive than the other options.
Whichever option you prefer, Turf Doctor. is ready with friendly expert advice!
